Failed Vision Screening?
Vision screenings are helpful, but they are not a substitute for a comprehensive eye exam. A child may pass a screening and still have a vision problem, or fail a screening without needing vision correction. A comprehensive eye exam with an optometrist can provide a more complete evaluation of your child's vision and eye health.
Does my child have pink eye?
Did you know there are several types of conjunctivitis (also known as pink eye), and not all are contagious? If your child has red eyes, watery eyes, or mucous discharge, an eye examination can help determine the likely cause. Using high magnification, our optometrist can evaluate the eye for signs associated with different types of conjunctivitis and recommend appropriate treatment.
When is my child ready for contacts?
A child is generally ready for contact lenses when they are motivated to wear them and willing to participate in the process. If a child does not want to wear contact lenses, the experience often does not work out well. Children also need to be responsible enough to follow proper contact lens hygiene and care instructions.
What is myopia management?
Myopia, or nearsightedness, is becoming increasingly common in children. Myopia develops when the eye grows too long during childhood and adolescence. Both genetic and environmental factors can contribute to its development and progression.
Fortunately, there are several approaches available today that may help slow the progression of childhood myopia. Our optometrist can evaluate your child's eyes and discuss appropriate myopia management options based on their individual needs.

She graduated as valedictorian from the New England College of Optometry, then spent over a decade working in community health and as a clinical educator for the New England College of Optometry and MCPHS University School of Optometry. She is committed to empowering her patients with knowledge about their eye health and vision through explanation throughout the eye exam process. She is an Ashland resident, Mom of two, and nature enthusiast.
